Volkswagen to go more Localized, will assemble Engines in India

Volkswagen, a German auto player is looking forward to strengthen its presence in India and localization is part of strategy. The company eyes to achieve up 90 percent localization in next few years. To do these, company need to produce some key components in India such as engine and gearbox.

Talking about Strategy, Mr. Mahesh Kodumudi President and MD Volkswagen India said that “Our current level of localisation is 70 per cent and our aim is to take this up to 85-90 per cent in the next few years. To achieve levels of 90 per cent local content, we definitely have tolocalise engines and gearboxes.

“We are close to a decision and we will announce as soon as we make this decision," added Mr. Kodumudi. He also said that “Localization is one of the prime targets for us during our current consolidation phase as it helps us in reducing our costs and improving cost competitiveness.”

The company is currently having 5 brands under its umbrella, which is part of company’s foundation phase. But we will see next phase starting within two years to come. At the same point of time the company is also emphasizing on improvement of quality and productivity along with up gradation of sales and after sales network.

While talking about production facility utilization, he said “Chakan plant will produce about 2 Lac car per annum which would be almost double of current production. He said Chakan plant is currently running on two shift system and produce about 1.3 Lac units, while with three shift system it would produce about 1.5 Lac cars per annum.

Audi Reveals A7 Sportsback Facelift

Audi has revealed its A7 sportsback facelift, the car does not come with huge changes, it gets minor cosmetic changes and reworked engine options with new transmission. Audi A7 is now available in 3.0 TDI ultra engine to its existing range.


The front-wheel-drive variant gets a 215 bhp, turbocharged diesel engine. There are also choice available between two other diesel and two petrol engines. These engine complies with EU6 emission regulations.

The front-wheel-drive option also gets seven speed clutch gearbox replacing earlier eight speed ‘multitronic’ CVT, some engine also avails benefit of new lightweight brakes. Honda Expect “Good Double Digit Growth” in Year to Come

Putting full-stop on the sluggish sales numbers, Honda Cars India expected newer highs in sales number. The company’s foray into diesel engine segment has proved its success and given 83 percent sales growth in previous year selling out 1.3 Lac units.

 
The company remain one of the exception player in declining sales number, it is believed that the launch of diesel Amaze compact sedan put Honda on right track skipping other players behind. Company received another boost with introduction of Honda City Diesel.

But what would be next strategy to maintain these good sales number, Honda is well prepared for time to come with its first MPV Mobilio and premium hatch Jazz. Mobilio will be available in two fuel options that are 1.5 litre I-vtech petrol engine and 1.5-litre iD-tech diesel engine. While Jazz also have offering in both petrol and diesel options. Production of Mobilio is expected from Greater Noida plant.

Mobilio will directly compete with existing MPVs Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova, that sold 4857 units and 3590 units respectively in the April, 2014. Expecting good response from customers for its new launches, company is now planning more production from its Tapukara plant.

Honda’s Tapukara plant currently has combined capacity of 2.4 Lac units per annum, currently working on a single shift. While now company is looking forward to make two shift that will expand the capacity and help company to deliver product as early as possible to its customer.

Locally Assemble Jaguar XJ Launched at Rs. 92.1 Lac.

Jaguar has yesterday launched its flagship luxury sedan XJ 3.0 Diesel version at the price of Rs. 92.1 Lac (Ex-showroom before Octroi). The car is relatively priced lower than its previous launch at Rs. 1.16 crore, having benefit of local assembling system.


The car will be assembled at company’s Pune division where company is currently assembling XF sedan and Land Rover. At the event Mr. RohitSuri, VP JLR India said that “We are delighted to introduce the flagship of the Jaguar brand, the epitome of extraordinary luxury, the XJ as locally manufactured, at an extremely competitive price point in the luxury saloon segment in India.”

The major features of the new car includes :
  • Two individual reclining seats in the rear with three massage settings,
  • Rear seat height and lumbar adjustment,
  • A new central console and armrest,
  • LED lights at the rear
  • Improved head by 13 mm.
  • 10.2-inch rear screen
The XJ has been loaded with 3.0-litre 2993cc diesel V6 engine while is capable of producing solid 271 bhp and 61.2kgm and spreads it to two rear wheels through eight-speed automatic gearbox. Jaguar also is also selling its 2.0-litre, four cylinder turbo-petrol engine, but this version is not assembled locally at this point of time.

The car is directly competing with Mercedes-Benz S-class, BMW 7 Series and Facelifted Audi A8. But so far it was lacking behind in sales because of its pricing, now it is expected to do well in the market.

Technical Revealed : 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Few days ago, sketch was released for 2015 Passat, the company now moves a step ahead towards the market introduction. The company revealed technical specification yesterday signaling a step ahead towards the launch.

 

The car was first put to showcase at Paris Motor Show last October and it is expected to make first delivery in the UK market in the beginning of year 2015.

The new Passat is loaded with the 2.0-litre TDI bi-turbo diesel engine, has capacity of producing 240PS and a maximum torque of 500 Nm from 1750rpm. It will have seven-speed DSG gearbox that will spread power to all four wheels.

We also received confirmation about hybrid model, that it will have range of 50km in electricity and 965km over all. Other features of the car include as following :

  • A latest gen-parking assist
  • A heads up display
  • Full LED headlights that use an on-board camera to prevent blinding other car drivers

Volkswagen has revealed the first technical details of the all-new Passat Saloon and Estate, ahead of the cars’ unveiling in July and their public premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October.

The eighth-generation Passat will bring with it a range of new technologies and features, to ensure that even after 41 years and over 23 million sales worldwide, it remains as competitive as ever.

Thanks to the use of advanced materials – including high-strength, hot-formed steel and aluminum in certain areas – the new Passat is up to 85 kg lighter than its predecessor, helping it to claim expected fuel-efficiency improvements of up to 20 per cent.

Despite exterior dimensions that are actually marginally smaller than those of the previous Passat, interior space is improved, with more leg- and head-room, as well as increased luggage space.

A highlight of the Passat’s new range of engines is a high-performance, four-cylinder, 2.0-litre, bi-turbo diesel delivering 240 PS and an extraordinary 500 Nm from 1,750 rpm. This engine will be available only with a new seven-speed DSG gearbox and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. A plug-in hybrid model will also be offered, with potential to travel 31 miles on battery power alone, and with a potential maximum range of around 600 miles.

Other new technology to be offered on the new Passat includes the Active Info Display, which replaces the instrument cluster with a fully configurable interactive 12.3-inch TFT display; a heads-up display; the latest Modular Infotainment System, including the Car-Net remote app; a further-developed 360-degree Area View function; and the latest generation of Park Assist. This newly developed Park Assist includes the option for the car to park itself forwards into perpendicular spaces – useful, for example at supermarket car parks, where access to the boot is important. It also includes a world-first Trailer Assist, which provides assistance when reversing a vehicle with a trailer attached – without the need for any modification or adaptation of the trailer.

Other safety technology includes Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert; Traffic Jam Assist which makes stop-and-go driving more comfortable; Emergency Assist, which can potentially halt a vehicle when the driver is incapacitated; and the latest Front Assist system with City Emergency Braking, which optionally combines both radar and camera sensors to add pedestrian detection.

All new Passats will feature LED tail lights, while headlights will be halogen or LED. In conjunction with Dynamic Light Assist, one of the two LED headlight options automatically adjusts the beam for maximum illumination of the road without dazzling other traffic.

Further details and first pictures of the Passat will be available in early July, ahead of the car’s public unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in October. UK sales will start before the end of the year, with first deliveries expected in early 2015.

Maruti to add new version of Alto in the Portfolio

Maruti Suzuki, who is well known for the low budget car and has always kept its buzz through cars like Maruti 800, Alto and Eon. The Maruti 800 is known as ‘people’s car’. Then it comes to Alto’s turn who has presence in millions of houses in India. Continuing the trend, Maruti wants to add one more version to Alto family.


Currently Alto is available in three version, First one is original Alto that was introduced before 14 years back. It has 0.8-litre. 3 cylinder motors. Another version came with updated engine K10 1.0-litre which is more powerful than original 0.8-litre.

While last version of Alto came in all new Avatar, new stylish and reshaped body but maintained original engine. And expected new comer will have another surprise. It will come with the original Alto body and new upgraded K1, a 4 cylinder engine. After 14 years, Alto will come with 4 cylinder engine with 16 valve motor which is good for 68PS of maximum power at 6200 rpm and 90Nm of maximum power at 3500rpm.

Maruti Launched Celerio CNG at Rs. 4.68 Lac

Maruti Suzuki, country’s largest car maker by volume introduced one more version of its Celerio family. The company price the car at Rs. 4.68 Lac, ex-showroom, Delhi. The company named this new Celerio as ‘Celerio Green’. It will be available in manual transmission engine in VXI range.


Mr. ManoharBhar said that “the idea of introducing a bi-fuel CNG variant was to strengthen the brand and offer more fuel choices to the customer,” and “We are confident that factory fitted iGPI technology on the Celerio Green will bring all the benefits to customers such as smooth drive and hassle-free maintenance and help us in expanding the Celerio brand.”

The company claims best-in class fuel efficiency of 31.79 km/kg in CNG mode. With new Celerio Green, company has strengthen its CNG portfolio and offers iGPI technologies on six models so far. These models include Alto 800, Wagon R, Ertiga, Sx4, and Ecco.

Volkswagen to Realign Production to Emphasis on Export


Volkswagen Group now focus more on Indian subsidy to achieve its global goals. The Volkswagen will now also rework its future production plant for Indian subsidiary. The company will focus more no localization and brand building, improving sales and services and new product launches.

Hyundai India Recalls 2,437 units of Santa Fe SUV


Hyundai Motor India, a second largest automobile manufacturer by volume in Indian Market. The company has been doing well with its recent launches Grand i10 and Compect Sedan Xcent. But on 25th May, company recalled 2,437 units of its Santa Fe SUV.


The recall has been made considering a faulty stop lamp switch. Company said statement that “Hyundai Motor India will voluntarily recall 2,437 number of Santa Fe vehicles of the 2011 model year in India for the manufacturing period June 26, 2011, to September 26, 2013.”


The company has taken this step to avoid potential difficulties because of non-working stop lamp which. The car will replace a switch considering potential malfunctioning. Affected Santa Fe owners will be notified in a phase manner, and they will be ask to take their car to nearby authorized dealer for the service.

Talking about some previous recalls Honda has recalled 31,226 units of Amaze and Brio, Maruti Suzuki recalled 1,03,311 units of Ertiga, Swift and Dzire, while Toyota recalled 44,989 units of MPV Innova.

Fiat Avventura to Hit Market at the End of 2014

Teaser Released: New Jaguar XE Sedan

Jaguar, a subsidiary of Indian Auto Giant Tata Motors released new official images of upcoming Jaguar XE. The images clearly states that the size of the car will smaller than other sedan so far from the company. This will be the first small sedan from the Jaguar with highly sporty stance. 

Jaguar XE Sedan 

The car will be based on recent development of the company, an ‘iQ AI’ aluminum structure. The ‘iQ AI’ is said to be highly flexible and it can accommodate transverse and manage well inline engines and drivetrains. The same structure might be used in future launches from the company like upcoming Jaguar SUV which is expected to come in 2016.

XE Sedan 

The XE Sedan’s powertrain is expected to be come with 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine, which is currently running in Jaguar F-type. The engine has capacity to produce up to 460 Nm depending up on car variant. While XE compact saloon is expected to come with 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines.

The car is expected to be unveil at Paris Motor Show this year, and might be launched in market for sell in mid of 2015. The car will give tough competition to the Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C- Class and BMW 3 – Series.

Celerio CNG hits the market, Priced at Rs. 4.68

Maruti Suzuki has added new fuel version of its recent launch Celerio. The company now offers a company fitted CNG kit with this new Celerio, and this Celerio CNG version will be called CelerioGeen.

The CelerioGeen is priced at Rs. 4.68 Ex-showroom, Delhi. At this price, the car will be loaded with same 1.0-litre engine but will produce 58 bhp, which is approximately 10 bhp less than its petrol version. The new version is powered by patented iGPI system which are available in other cars of Maruti such as WagonR and Ertiga. The company claims mileage 31.79 km / kg of Celerio Green.

Basic Comparison : Honda Mobilio vs Maruti Ertiga vs Toyota Innova

The comparison is between three major SUVs, two have already proved themselves, and one is awaiting its launch. Toyota Innova have been riding horse race since its launch while Ertiga has done substantially good job. Now people’s eyes are towards the upcoming Honda Mobilio while is going to make its entry in July this year.

How they fit Mechanically:
The Toyota Innova, among the most sold SUVs, more popular among the politicians, government cars and hotel taxies. The car is powered by 1998cc power engine, has four cylinder petrol engine good for 130 bhp and 18.5 kg and a 2449cc, four cylinder diesel engine with capacity to make 102 bhp and 20.4 kgm.

While Maruti Ertiga has pretty well since its introduction, but it is considered as Life Utility Vehicle instead of a pure SUV. The car has 1373 cc, four cylinder petrol motor with capacity to produce 93.7 bhp and 13.2 kgm and1248 cc, four cylinder diesel engine with capacity to produce 88.7 bhp and 20.4 kgm.

Toyota Innova
While all new Mobilio is expected to come with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines, which was used in fourth generation Honda City. The Petrol 1497cc, four cylinder engine makes 117bhp and 14.7 kgm while 1498cc, four cylinder diesel engine will make 88.7bhp and 20.4 kgm of power.
Space and Comfort:

The Toyota Innova, remains top in this segment too. It has highest wheelbase of 2750mm which is 10 mm more than Maruti Ertiga’s 2740 mm base. While Honda Mobilio will have 2650 mm wheelbase significantly lower than previous two.

The Innova has been known for its comfort since its introduction, Ertiga is a bit backward while it comes to competition with Innova. Now we see new upcoming Mobilio to deliver its turn. We can expect good command of space in Mobilio too because Honda has proved its design capability in its small car Brio.

Pricing :
The upcoming Mobilio is expected to start from Rs. 6.2 Lacs for the based version of Petrol model. While Ertiga is selling at 5.8 Lac for base petrol variant. While powerful Innova price starts from Rs. 9.67 Lacs for the base version.

Conclusion :
While seeing all these basic features, it seems that Mobilio will give tough competition to the Maruti Ertiga while Innova will be able to keep itself little aside. But yes, it is for sure that sells number will make difference as Honda fans will have good offer at much lower price.

BMW 5 – Series Diesel to Get More Power

BMW is stepping up its % series models to increase more attraction towards BMW in the market. BMW 5 series cars are already doing pretty well in the market. Though with intend to increase sale furthermore, the company will launch 518d and 520d models with mild power changes form the September this year.

The new sedan will get 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine which is claimed to improve cars performance and fuel economy.

The cars will be come with common rail injector technology, the 518d will come with capacity to produce 148bhp and maximum of 40.8 kgm of torque, which is increased by 7 bhp and 2.07 kgm from existing models.

The 520d will have 187 bhp and maximum torque of 40.8 kgm which will be same as 518d. thebhp has an increase of 6 bhp from current model.

These engines will be mated with the eight-speed gearbox, which is claimed to deliver more fuel efficiency and better performance. So far there is no any information about launch of these models in India.

Bentely Mulsanne 95 special edition launched in UK

Bentely Celebrating its 95th anniversary, launched the Mulsanne 95, a super luxury car. The company will hand craft only 15 cars at Mulliner division and it would be available for only UK customers.  The car will be available in three colour options which have been chosen specially to showcase the company’s proud British roots, these colours include Britannia blue, empire red and Oxford white. 

The interior of the car is super luxury, covered with wood and leather, its cabin is also beautiful and showcase its capability of building a marvel luxury. The seats have the 95 emblem stitched into them and the passenger fascia panel.

The Mulsanne 95 gets a rare wood veneer which has been selected from a walnut tree, which is suspected to be about 300 years old.



Skoda to Launch Rapid Diesel with DSG Automatic

The Skoda has good presence in India with its product portfolio of Superb, Laura, Fabia and Rapid which are manufactured or assembled in India, while imported models include Yeti, Octavia and 2013 Octavia. Now the company is looking forward to upgrade Rapid with new 1.5-litre diesel engine. The new variant will come to the market towards the end of this year.

Being among the successful models from Skoda Rapid enjoys good brand name in India. The 2015 My Rapid with new diesel engine will also have automatic gearbox. No other changes are expected as this will not be a facelift car except some interior up gradation and more equipment to come in standard form.

Aim behind the introduction of new Rapid with smaller 1.5-litre engine would be avail customer with more fuel efficiency and excise duty benefits. Lower excise duty strata eventually helps company to decide competitive price for the car in the market.

Tata Motors Takes New Initiative to Re-gain its Position Back

Tata Motor has been struggling for pretty long time and it has lost its second position to Hyundai for years now, and recently Honda took over for number three in the industry in terms of sales volumes. The company has tried new models and upgraded models, but sales remain in downturn position.

Now, the company is looking forward to get back to its position among top auto players in the industry. The company is working hard to strengthen its production capability, design capability and new product innovations. The board of the company has its already approved plan of new launch till 2020. According to this plan, company doesn’t want relay on conventional fuel options any more. This new plan also includes new launches with hybrids, electric options and other fuel technologies.

The company has learnt a lot from the recent few years and now it is preparing for huge ahead. Tata Motors President for Passenger Vehicles Business Unit Mr. RanjitYadav said that “There is no fun in being less than the best, Tata Motors is a volume player. For us to grow and flourish, we have to be a significant scale payer... We are here to play a big game and not a niche game.”

Tata Motors have now introduce new initiative called “New Product Introduction (NPI)”. The company will envisions the product introduction, types of product, requirement of the market, all under the one name. The company will have hybrid and electric vehicle in the market by 2017 and alternate fuel option car by 2020.
Lastly Mr. Yadav said that “We have now put an extremely structured way of working for realising new vehicles to ensure that everything is done the right way at the right time. NPI Gen3 is a huge system process structure that we are putting in place, which will help us realise a new vehicle every year as we go forward.”

Volkswagen Group to Invest 100 Million Euros for Market Expansion


The company is looking forward to invest these huge amount in order to bring new model to the market, update its existing portfolio and make available necessary parts and services all across the country.

German car maker giant, Volkswagen Group is looking to strengthen its presence in India in order to achieve its global goal. The company will invest about 100 million euros to strengthen its product portfolio and customer service capabilities.
VolkswagenMahesh Kodumudi, President and MD, Volkswagen India told news agency that “At present, an investment of approximately 100 million euros is in the decision process for new models and for further localization of parts and components,” and “further large investments will accompany decisions for further new models for the Indian and export markets.”

While explaining the strategy he said that “We intend to make these investments step-wise as decisions are realised. In summary, we intend to make these ‘further large investments’ over a period of the next few years before the end of this decade.”

The company is looking forward to introduce a compact sedan, a compact SUV and a compact hatchback as a part of this strategy. While trading on its plan of becoming world leader, “India is expected to become one of the biggest automotive markets in the world and Volkswagen wants to be a part of this growth. As far as market share is considered, the Volkswagen Group aims to achieve a high single digit market share before the end of this decade.” Said Mr. Mehesh.
